100 PROMISES GOD HAS GIVEN ME & FULFILLED:
The Story of a Lupus Patient!

This website is the beginning of a book I have wanted to write for a long time.  I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in February 1975.  This is my opportunity to tell my story by sharing 100 of the promises God has fulfilled in my life......

THE ADS ABOVE OR POPUPS ARE NOT ENDORSED BY MYSELF!

2/13/2011 DARFT AS OF TODAY.....STILL WORKING ON THIS STORY!

100 PROMISES GOD HAS GIVEN ME & FULFILLED: THE STORY OF A LUPUS PATIENT!

http://100promises.faithweb.com/

Each of these verses speaks to some event or era of my life.

My faith was the only thing I had that could propel me to take another step or to let him carry me.

 This book is dedicated to:

My dad (Mitch) who passed away in 1980, weeks before my graduation from Washington University - St. Louis, MO (WASHU).

My mom who worked two jobs all my growing up years and is finally enjoying retirement.

My sister Pie (Julie) who could cook any kind of dessert!

My sister Net (Jeanette) who has a family reunion at her home every Sunday.

My brother Speedy who served as the man of the house at Momma's.

My Aunt Thelma for the many rides in the white Pinto and hair cuts (Afro) for special occasions.

My Big Momma who really understood.

My husband (Irvin) who stuck with me at WASHU through sickness, cheerleading, intramural sports, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Lupus Foundation meetings, and classes I could not stay awake in no matter how hard I tried.

I have been saying for years that I would write a book about 100 promises God has given to me.  Today (January 23, 2009) I wish to put my fingers to typing.  Got word today I had to do more tests because the creatinine level in my blood is rising due to LUPUS NEPHRITIS (KIDNEY DISEASE)!!!!!!  God's word has brought me thus far!  The following scriptures give a glimpse into the life of a Lupus patient.  Hopefully this information will bless someone living with Lupus and also provide information to family and friends.

 1.                  Phil 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in Glory by Jesus Christ.

My parents divorced when I was 5 years old.  They eventually came to an understanding that we (four children) would spend weekends, holidays and summers at my dad's house.  The costs of raising four kids were so high.  If it had not been for the schools and the Melton Y.M.C.A. we would have not had the opportunities to participate in outside activities.  God always supplied the money for us.  I was able to participate as a cheerleader, and on the track team.  Many of my teachers assisted me in several ways, finding a job, letting me work in the cafeteria for my lunch (washed-a-many dishes), writing speeches, providing rides to events, preparing for the University Interscholastic League' Mathematics competition (no calculators - all in your head), and just being a friend.

 2.                  Romans 8:1 - There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

There have been so many mistakes I have made in my life.  But my God has been just to forgive and cleanse my heart.  I also there were times I was ashamed that our family did not have the same things others did.  My dad reminded us to not covet things in our hearts.  He told us to not say "I wish I had that."  I understand now what he means.  No need to worry about what we have or not have.  God forgave me and I learned to be pleased with who I was - a child of the king.  He may convict me of my wrong but would not condemn me.

 3.                  II Corinthians 12:9 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.  Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

At 18 I left home for WASHU.  I was so sick.  Could not figure out why my knees, hands, back, and ankles hurt so badly.  I developed a rash on my face.  Was in the school's infirmary for approximately two weeks.  Was eventually hospitalized.  I was dropped off by the campus police at the bottom of an escalator that did not work.  It took every resolve in me to climb those stairs.  I feared I would faint and fall backwards.  When I tried to register.  I was told I needed a parent because I was under the age of 21.  I told them that in the state of Texas I declared an adult at 18.  But the registrant told me I still needed a parent to sign me in.  I called my mom.  She left immediately.  It took 14 hours for her to get there.  But around 6 p.m. that night they realized that I was a Washington University student and could register me.  I sat there all day really believing I was going to die.  But GOD IS GOOD.  The doctor on call, Dr. Bevra Hahn, was one of the best rheumatologists in the U.S.  She looked at me.  Told me to raise my hands and not let her push them down.  I could not do it.  I was so weak.  She stated she knew what I had and requested several tests.  At that time LE prep was one of the tests.  I had no insurance so I was seen as a research patient.  Can't believe I still have blood in my body.  Had to go every Friday and have blood tests run.  Each August I came back to school early to go into the research hospital in the Barnes Complex, St. Louis, MO.  I asked Dr. Hahn if I could sweep the floors each night because I could not pay.  She took my file and write "PROFESSIONAL COURTESY" across the front of the folder.  THANK YOU JESUS!  You are a provider!

 4.                  Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Thank you Jesus that I am saved.  I was raised attending two churches:  Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (my dad's home church) and West Beulah Baptist Church (my Aunt Thelma's church).

 5.                  Romans 5:2 - By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

I have truly been in the grace of God.  As I traveled across the country for my jobs, I have been ini his protection.  After one hotel stay I returned home to see a cult on the TV in a hotel room refusing to come out.  It was the same hotel I was staying in.  Protection, deep protection of God's grace.  I returned to stay at another hotel and they had a new manager.  I asked where the old manager had gone only to hear he was shot and killed by a robber over the weekend.  Truly protected by God's grace.  My room was right next to the front desk.

 6.                  I Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

4-21-2010  I have been really contemplating the thought that my doctor for the fourth time is telling me I need dialysis.  Each time the numbers have dropped, they have risen and I have avoid dialysis.  I have read all of the literature and know what is is involved but do not want to go through the process of dialysis.  Have prayed to the Lord to remove this cup if it is within his will.  Know he will deliver his will.  I will survive with him carrying me one more time.  Survived colon cancer.  Was off work for more than two months.  Thought why was I suffering so, but held on to the knowledge that this too shall pass.  And it did!  God saw fit to remove this disease from my body with no requirement for chemo.  Will visit cancer institute on next week for regular check up and to drink that nasty drink.  But, I will survive with the help of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.  In his name I will be victorious!

 7.                  Jude v 24 - Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.

4-21-2010 I thank God for all the times he kept me from falling - falling into a deep despair.  I know each journey was given to me to make me strong.  I have been given the vision of the Janice Mitchell Isbell Academy Inc. to help those children who are struggling in a traditional classroom. I know each time I go through something God is restoring my compassion and passion for these children of his.  I thank God for the opportunity to be used by him.  He is my all and all.  Have before the vision of a complex such as Calhoun Community College.  That's what the JMIA will look like.  Dorms for those children who need housing by us.  Yes my eyes are Jesus, and I know he watches me!

8.                  Daniel 6:16 - Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions.  Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

02/13/2011 God has truly protected me and delivered me to victory.  Several times I was in that lion's den and thought that there was no way out.  But God came and delivered me out of my despair.  I wanted to play intramural sports in college in an effort to appear NORMAL!  I loved sports but felt like crap.  I prayed before each event for endurance, strength, etc.  It was so hard to hang on, but I did with his grace.  I can't imagine how I persevered.  But I know it was God.  Blessings to all my WASHU friends who help me along the way to ensure I graduate.  Thanks for your encouragement, taking care of me, calling and checking on me.  You all will never know how your kindness got me through!  THANK U JESUS!

Then the lame will leap like deer, and the tongue of the mute will shout for joy. For waters will break forth in the wilderness and streams in the Arabah.

  99.              Psalm 142:1 - 7 - I cry aloud with my voice to the Lord; I make supplication with my voice to the Lord. I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare my trouble before Him. When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, You knew my path. In the way where I walk They have hidden a trap for me. Look to the right and see; For there is no one who regards me; There is no escape for me; no one cares for my soul. I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, You are my refuge, My portion in the land of the living. Give heed to my cry, For I am brought very low; Deliver me from my persecutors, For they are too strong for me. Bring my soul out of prison, so that I may give thanks to Your name; The righteous will surround me, For You will deal bountifully with me.

 100.          1 Timothy 6:17 - 19 - Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.

 101.          Psalm 34:6 - 10 - This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and rescues them. O taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! O fear the Lord, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.

 102.          Luke 12:28 - 31 - But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

 105.          1 Peter 5:8 - 10 - Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

 106.          Psalm 11:3 - 7 - If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do? The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord's throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates. Upon the wicked He will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup. For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face.

  107.          2 Corinthians 4:7 - 9 - But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.

 108.          Isaiah 51:11 - So the ransomed of the Lord will return and come with joyful shouting to Zion, and everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

 109.          Philippians 4:6 - 8 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

 110.          Psalm 138:7 - Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me.

 111.          John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

 112.          Hebrews 10:35 - 36 - Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

 113.          Philippians 1:6 - For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

 114.          Psalm 31:24 - Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the Lord.
